There are two ways to back up your NUFI wallet: a recovery phrase and a wallet backup file.
The recovery phrase:
- is a 15-word seed/mnemonic phrase that is written down during wallet setup
- backs up any hot/software (i.e. non-hardware wallet) accounts
- is optional for hardware wallet users
- can be used to restore your accounts into NUFI or into any other non-custodial wallet
The wallet backup file:
- is a json file that can be exported from wallet Settings
- can be used by hot wallet and hardware wallet users
- can be used to quickly restore all accounts into NUFI wallet if your wallet profile is removed, e.g. if you clear your browser cache
Important:
- the wallet backup file is protected (encrypted) by your wallet's password
- when you download a wallet backup file and then make changes to your wallet (e.g. add new accounts), the changes are not reflected in any backup files you already downloaded: consider backing up your wallet again if you make changes to it
How to export a wallet backup file
- Open your NUFI wallet and click Settings on the left side
- Go to the 'Export wallet' section
- Click Export wallet to download the wallet backup file to your device
How to restore your wallet using a backup file
If your wallet profile is removed (e.g. if you clear your browser cache), you can quickly restore all accounts by uploading a wallet backup file.
- Open NUFI and click Restore Wallet
- Click 'Backup File' and upload your wallet backup file
- Enter a name for the new wallet profile (which can be different from its previous name)
- Enter the same password used when the backup file was created
- Click Recover to restore your accounts
