This article explains how to manage your Bitcoin Runes and Ordinals using NuFi's non-custodial wallet. Hardware wallet users can pair a device and manage BTC, Runes and Ordinals in NuFi's interface but support differs per device:
- For regular Bitcoin accounts (Segwit): Ledger, Trezor, Keystone, BitBox02, OneKey and GridPlus hardware wallets supported
- For Runes and Ordinals (Taproot): Ledger and Keystone supported, with support for more devices coming soon
In this article:
Bitcoin Taproot, Ordinals & Runes
A Taproot address supports advanced Bitcoin features like Ordinals (Bitcoin NFTs), Runes (Bitcoin tokens), Rare Sats (tiny non-fungible units of BTC with rare attributes), and BRC-20 tokens.
You can create a Taproot address inside NuFi wallet to securely send, receive and manage these assets. A Taproot address starts with "bc1p", while a Native Segwit account (used for regular Bitcoin) starts with "bc1q". NuFi wallet supports both types.
Using a dedicated Taproot address keeps these advanced assets separate from your regular Bitcoin, protecting them from accidental spending. As such, your Taproot balance is visible inside NuFi wallet but excluded from your main spendable Bitcoin balance. This ensures that your collectibles stay safe. An option to make Taproot balance spendable will be available soon in NuFi wallet.
Receiving Ordinals & Runes
To receive Bitcoin Ordinals or Runes, open the Receive modal by clicking Receive, then select an Ordinals & Runes address.
If you don't yet have a Taproot account (which is needed to send and receive these assets), create one from the Accounts tab; click 'Add Account' in the top right.
When you add a new account, select 'Taproot' at the top. Your Taproot address starts with "bc1p".
About Rare Sats
Rare Sats are satoshis (Bitcoin's smallest unit of measurement, equivalent to 0.00000001 BTC) that are inscribed with unique or rare metadata, for example: a satoshi mined right after a halving (rare), or one mined in Bitcoin's genesis block (mythic). Because of their scarcity and perceived value, there's a thriving market for Rare Sats.
Rare Sats in NuFi wallet
- NuFi detects Rare Sats but does not show them.
- Rare Sats on Taproot addresses are protected and excluded from transactions.
- Rare Sats on non-Taproot addresses can still be spent, but NuFi warns you if a transaction includes one.
- Full support coming soon.
BRC-20
BRC-20 tokens are not yet supported. However, NuFi detects them and excludes them from transactions to keep them safe.
Coming Soon
- Spendable Taproot balance
- Full Rare Sats support
- BRC-20 support
