Welcome to NuFi wallet's knowledge base. Learn more about NuFi (and access the wallet) on our homepage here or ask a question in our Discord server here.

When pairing your Ledger device's Bitcoin accounts with NuFi, you can choose between two types of accounts:

  • Account-level accounts (used by Ledger Live)
    Derivation path: `m/<purpose>'/0'/<account index>`

  • Address-level accounts (used by Xverse)
    Derivation path: `m/<purpose>'/0'/0'/0/<account index>`

Both account types can hold Bitcoin, Ordinals, Runes, and BRC-20 tokens, and both work safely in NuFi.

⚠️ Important: We recommend that you do not use Ledger Live to manage your Bitcoin accounts if you hold Ordinals or Runes. Ledger Live does not recognise Ordinals or Runes and may treat these assets as normal Bitcoin and spend them by accident.

Even if you only use address-level accounts (which aren't used by Ledger Live) in your NuFi wallet, this does not protect your assets. This is because address-level accounts are technically subaccounts of account-level accounts, and their addresses overlap; as a result, Ledger Live will still detect these accounts and could unknowingly spend your Ordinals or Runes as regular BTC by accident.

Safe setup if you need both

If you must use both NuFi wallet and Ledger Live, keep your accounts separate by:

  • Using a second Ledger device with a different seed phrase; or

  • Setting up a passphrase on your Ledger device, so that the accounts you use in your NuFi wallet and the accounts that Ledger Live discovers do not overlap.
