NUFI wallet supports Zcash (ZEC). You can send, receive, hold and swap ZEC in your NUFI wallet, either with a software/hot wallet, or using a Ledger, Trezor or OneKey hardware wallet.

  • NUFI currently supports transparent Zcash addresses and transactions only.
  • Shielded (private) transactions are not supported yet.

Transparent addresses (supported in NUFI)

Transparent addresses work much like Bitcoin addresses. Everything about a transparent transaction is public on the Zcash blockchain, including:

  • the sending address
  • the receiving address
  • the amount sent

Anyone can look these up with a Zcash block explorer. Transparent addresses start with t1 or t3.

Sending and receiving

Important: you can only send to transparent addresses (t1… or t3…) or unified addresses using your NUFI wallet. If someone gives you an address that starts with zs1, it is a shielded address, and NUFI can’t send to these yet. Ask the recipient for a transparent or unified address instead.

Can I receive ZEC from a shielded wallet?

Yes. Another Zcash wallet can send ZEC from a shielded address to your transparent NUFI address. The funds will arrive as regular transparent ZEC.

Can I send to a unified address?

Yes; you can use NUFI to send to both transparent and unified addresses.

About Shielded addresses (not yet supported)

Shielded addresses use zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs). The network can confirm that a transaction is valid without revealing who sent it, who received it, or how much was sent.

Shielded addresses usually start with zs1. Newer unified addresses start with u1 and can include shielded receivers.

Shielded users can share a viewing key with someone they choose, such as an accountant or auditor. That person can then see the transaction history, while everyone else still can’t.

NUFI does not support shielded addresses or transactions at the moment. We plan to add shielded support in a future update and will announce it when it’s available.

FAQ

Is my ZEC in NUFI private?

No. Because NUFI currently uses transparent addresses, your balance and transaction history are publicly visible on the blockchain, just as they would be with Bitcoin.

Which hardware wallets can I use?

Ledger, Trezor and OneKey devices are supported for Zcash. Make sure your device firmware is up to date and, where required, that the Zcash app is installed on the device.

What happens to my ZEC when shielded support arrives in NUFI?

Nothing changes. Your transparent ZEC stays in your wallet. You’ll simply get the option to use shielded addresses as well.
