Staking lets you earn SOL rewards on the SOL in your wallet while helping keep Solana secure and decentralized. It's low-effort, and in NUFI it takes just a couple of clicks to start.
How it works
Solana is a Proof-of-Stake blockchain. Validators run the network by processing transactions and producing blocks, and they earn rewards for it. When you stake, you delegate your SOL to a validator, which increases its weight on the network, and the validator shares its rewards with its delegators.
When you stake, NUFI moves the SOL you choose into a stake account. This is a special account that belongs to you and is controlled by your wallet. The validator never takes ownership of your SOL and can't move it. Only you can unstake and withdraw it.
Staking with NUFI
- You stay in control: your SOL sits in a stake account only your wallet can manage
- Choose your own validator, or use the recommended one
- Stake any amount, and keep the rest available
- Rewards are staked automatically, so they compound
- Multiple stake accounts are supported
- No minimum staking period: unstake whenever you like
- Stake from hot wallet or hardware wallet accounts
Staking schedule
- Epochs: Solana runs in epochs of roughly 2–2.5 days. Staking and unstaking requests take effect at the end of an epoch.
- Warm-up: your new stake becomes active at the end of the current epoch, which can be hours or up to about 2 days away (depending on how close it is to the epoch boundary). NUFI shows a countdown next to a stake account that's warming up.
- Rewards: once active, you earn rewards every epoch, paid into your stake account. Your first rewards usually arrive within about 5 days of staking.
- Cool-down: when you unstake, your SOL deactivates at the end of the current epoch (up to ~2 days). You then need to withdraw it to your available balance. See How to unstake and withdraw SOL.
Rewards
How much you earn depends on how much you stake, your validator's performance, and its commission. Typical returns are around 6–8% per year.
Some validators, including NUFI's, also pass on MEV rewards: extra rewards paid by Jito on top of regular staking rewards. These aren't staked automatically and can be withdrawn at any time.
FAQs
Is staking safe?
Yes. Your SOL stays in a stake account that only you control. The main thing to watch is your validator's commission and uptime: a validator that goes offline earns you fewer rewards.
Can I use my SOL while it's staked?
No. Staked SOL can't be spent or sent until you unstake and withdraw it, so keep some SOL unstaked for transaction fees.
How do I start?
Click Stake Now next to SOL on the Home screen, or click Staking in the left-hand sidebar, then select Solana, and Stake SOL next to your Solana account.
